Hair dryer is one of the quickest and easiest ways to get your hair dry in a hurry and uses a motor to blow heated air into your hair. blow-driers are mostly used to take the moisture out of wet hair but can also be used to make your hair straight, curly or add a wave by simply using different heat settings, attachments and your hair brush.

When you begin shopping for a hair dryer, the most important thing is to understand the differences between products so you don’t spend more money than you need to. Keep the following things in mind when shopping:

  • Weight: If your hair is long and you blow it out every day, a heavy dryer might quickly lose your affection. Most professional versions have an AC motor, which is weighty (about 3.5 pounds) but makes them powerful enough to stand up to drying your whole family’s hair on a daily basis. Compare that with the shorter-lasting DC motors found in most standard dryers (which usually weigh around 1.75 pounds), says Neil Tobin, global category manager for Women’s Personal Care at the Remington Products Company.
  • Dryers with wattages above 1800 watts tend to work best (though there are exceptions, as you’ll see below)
  • Look for a dryer with multiple heat/speed settings (4-6 is pretty standard these days), and for a cool shot button to lock hair in place after it’s been heat styled
  • Make sure your dryer comes with a nozzle attachment, which will concentrate the air as you blow dry
  • If you have curly hair, make sure you find a dryer that comes with a diffuser, or make sure that you can get a diffuser that fits your dryer.

There are several types of hair dryer available, and you should choose the one that best suits your drying and styling needs. Standard models offer a variety of features, such as:

  • Multiple heat settings, including a cool setting to help set curls or gel.
  • Assorted attachments for different styling needs.
  • Voltage adaptors suitable for travel.
  • Safety sensors and fan cages.
  • Higher quality models may feature specialty technology, such as ionic dryers which use negatively charged ions rather than the positive ions emitted by standard dryers in order to help preserve the hair’s moisture and dry hair more quickly.
  • Another specialty design is the ceramic dryer, which provides more even heat and has more sophisticated temperature regulators to prevent damage.
