After the extensions are applied, they can be cut and styled, much like the client’s own hair. Special shampoos are needed, because the oils found in most shampoos will cause the extensions to slide down the hair shaft and eventually fall out. Shampooing should be done gently, and vigorous rubbing should be avoided. A wide tooth comb is also recommended, because the extensions can possibly be pulled out if they become entangled in a comb or brush.

After you have your hair extensions in place, you will need to schedule regular maintenance visits to check your extensions. How often you need to go back will depend on the type of hair and the method of attachment that was used. As your hair grows out, some of the hair extensions will need to be removed and replaced or touched up.
